Iron Plus is a combination of iron fumarate, folic acid, and vitamin C, all of which work synergistically to combat iron deficiency—anemia.
Women are at greater risk than men of developing iron deficiency, primarily due to their menstrual cycle. Recent studies have indicated that intense exercise can inhibit iron absorption in women, making it even easier for them to develop a deficiency, with fatigue, a weakened immune system, and low mood as common symptoms.
Iron is a component of hemoglobin in the blood and red blood cells, and is necessary for transporting oxygen from the lungs to the body’s tissues. Iron also helps regulate blood pH, as well as detoxification and DNA production. Thanks to its important properties, iron is a key mineral for health.
Folic acid is a B vitamin found in leafy green vegetables and liver. It is necessary for cell division and the body’s protein metabolism. Folic acid is especially important for those who are planning to become pregnant or are already pregnant. Folic acid deficiency leads to impaired cell division, which has the greatest effect on rapidly growing tissue, such as during the formation of new organs in a fetus or the production of blood cells in the bone marrow. Swedish dietary recommendations state that the daily requirement is 200 µg. However, there can be significant variations in actual needs.
Taking 2 tablets adequately meets the recommendations for folic acid supplementation and provides an effective dose of iron to prevent iron deficiency. Iron absorption from the intestine is reduced if taken at the same time as coffee, tea, eggs, or milk.
Vitamin C increases the body’s absorption of iron, and thanks to its antioxidant properties, it protects folic acid from degradation.
